Geodata Sources

Since obtaining data for geospatial analysis can be time-consuming, we have compiled a list of reliable sources to help you get started. This list is by no means exhaustive and is intended as a starting point only if you are new to working with geospatial data. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that the licences comply with your intended use.

GADM (Global Administrative Areas)

Spatial data for countries and their subdivisions.

GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans)

Provides global bathymetry data (elevation data). See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathymetry for further information on bathymetry.

Land Cover 2020 (raster 10 m)

"Provides information at the global level on different types (classes) of physical coverage of the Earth's surface, e.g. tree cover, grasslands, croplands, permanent water bodies, wetlands at 10 m spatial resolution for the 2020 base year."

CROPGRIDS Data on Harvested and Crop Areas

"CROPGRIDS provides spatially explicit information on the distribution of 173 crops at a resolution of 0.05 degrees (~5.6 km at the equator), for the year 2020."
